A very big thank you to supporters who travelled on the coach to London for the march and to those who were unable to come in person and who made donations and sent their best wishes.
Following a very wet and windy week we were extremely lucky with the weather. We were greeted with sunshine as we disembarked from the coach and made our way to Wellington Arch where we gathered for a group photo after which we walked to Park Lane for the start of the march.
It was heartening to see so very many 4 Europe supporters from all over the UK and further afield who gathered to protest as we made our way along Piccadilly, past Trafalgar Square, down Whitehall past Downing Street in a sea of banners, placards and EU flags.
At Parliament square we heard many inspiring speeches from amongst others, Terry Reintke German MEP, Richard Corbett last Labour leader EU Parliament, Mike Galsworthy European Movement, Femi Oluwole political activist, Sue Wilson Bremain in Spain, and Cecilia Jastezembska Young European Movement.
Whilst hugely encouraged by the loss of many ardent Brexiteer MPs at the last general election and their replacement by many more pro EU MPs, the damages that leaving the EU has caused the UK continue. The speakers highlighted the need to work co-operatively with our EU neighbours, the need to repair the damage to the economy in so very many different sectors and the need to improve opportunities for young people. As well as campaigning to unravel the Brexit damages we were warned about the rising threats of insularity and authoritarianism both here in the UK and the EU.
It was a good day!
We were amongst friends and fellow campaigners, resolute in the need to keep working for a better future for the UK, back in the heart of Europe.
